You may drive in California with a valid out-of-state or international driver's license for six months.
After that, you must obtain a California Driver's License.
Call the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) at (213) 744-2000 to make an appointment.
The test consists of two parts: a written test (a study book is available at the DMV) and an in-car driving test. You must bring your own automobile and proof of auto insurance.
No official lessons are required. The DMV cannot issue an international drivers license. You must obtain this from your home country.

You will only need a Social Security Card if you want a California Driver's License.
To apply for a social security card, you should take the following documents in person to the Social Security Office located at 3836 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles (Tel:(213)739-0765).
- Passport
- I-20
- I-94 (the small white card in your passport)

A CLS Card (CLS identification card) is not essential for all CLS students.
However, we will provide it upon request.
